Noise 101 Workshop
In conjunction with the 2012 Noise Conference, the AWMA-OS has decided to offer a “Noise 101” Afternoon Workshop
Monday, May 7, 2:00 to 5:00 pm, Four Points Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel
(Same location as the full day conference, the following day)
For anyone unfamiliar with the basic terminology and science of sound and vibration, this two hour primer will cover the fundamentals, and will set the context for many of the presentations at the Noise Conference, the following day. The workshop will explain in plain English:
- What sound and vibration are?
- How sound and vibration are measured?
- What are decibels [dB] and A-weighted decibels [dB] and why are they used?
- Frequency, loudness and sound level,
- Sound pressure level versus sound power level,
- Principles of sound propagation outdoors,
- Behaviour of sound in rooms, and
- Typical methods of noise and vibration control.
If acoustics seem like smoke and mirrors to you, or if you have questions about noise and vibration that you have always been afraid to ask, you won’t want to miss this workshop!
